Karu Artic Bushcraft
In Karu's training areas, you can experience the real winter.
On the Karu Arctic Bushcraft course, you will learn essential winter bushcraft skills. You will learn more about winter equipment and how to move around in nature. You will learn more about temporary accommodation suitable for winter conditions and the consumption of energy when staying outdoors in winter. You will go ice-fishing and prepare food over an open fire. You can hike in a snowy forest by using snowshoes or skis, and you can try riding a dog sled. You will stay the night in a large heated tent out in the open or, if you so desire, in temporary accommodation.
The Karu Artic Bushcraft course is intended for everyone who is interested in winter outdoor skills and who wants to learn new skills or expand their existing ones. During the one-week course, you will learn the comprehensive outdoor skills required in winter under the guidance of professional and straightforward instructors. The course teaches you skills to hike independently outdoors in winter and develop your skills on your own.
The Karu Artic Bushcraft course will be held in the North Karelia region in eastern Finland. You will stay the night in a large heated tent out in the open. The first and last nights of the course will be stayed in a cabin or hotel, so that you are well-rested before and after the course.
You will learn the following skills during the week:
Physiology and performance under cold exposure
Nutrition, water and risks
Moving around: snowshoes, skis, dog sled
Preparing a campsite and temporary accommodation
Preparing food over an open fire
Risks in cold conditions and how to prepare for them
Content of the course:
All food enjoyed during the course
All equipment and material required during training
The first and last nights indoors
Transportation from the airport or railway station
To be noted:
Attendees must take out insurance and have a sleeping bag and mattress suitable for winter conditions and seasonal clothing. Clients must be in a normal state of health.
